Serge Grazioli

Dr Serge Grazioli is a pediatric intensivist working at the Division of Neonatal and Pediatric intensive care at the Geneva University Hospitals. Dr Grazioli obtained his medical degree in 2003 at the University of Geneva and completed his specialist training in Paediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care at the Children’s Hospital of Geneva and the BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. He completed his clinical training with a two-year research fellowship at Center for Lung Biology at the University of Washington in Seattle.

His main research interest is focused on the inflammatory response with multiple organ dysfunction of critically ill children. He participated in national and international study investigating the pathogenesis of children presenting with multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID-19. Using a translational approach, he is currently investigating the role of mitochondrial damage-associated molecular patterns and endothelial dysfunction in the proinflammatory response of children with sepsis and in children after cardiac surgery.

He also actively participates in collaborative European research projects through ESPNIC and ERN rare liver disease to investigate the role of different extracorporeal therapies in the transplant-free survival of children presenting with acute liver disease.
